Showgaze ("we," "us," or "our") is a platform designed for live event producers to collect, synchronize, and analyze audience-shot footage. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you visit showgaze.app (the "Site") or use our services.
We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy is intended to be clearly expressed and kept up to date in accordance with APP 1.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 From Event Organizers & Partners
When you contact us or apply to use Showgaze, we may collect:
- Contact Information: Name, email address, and professional affiliation.
- Event Details: Information about your venue, festival, or production requirements.
- Account Credentials: Login information for authorized organizer access.
1.2 From Event Attendees (Contributors)
When you contribute footage via a Showgaze link or QR code, we collect:
- Media Content: Video and audio recordings you upload.
- Media Metadata: Technical data associated with your media, such as timestamps and file formats. Please Note: Media files may contain embedded geographical metadata (GPS coordinates) if enabled in your device's camera settings. This data assists in the accurate synchronization of footage.
1.3 Location Privacy & Inverted Geofencing
We take a local-first approach to location privacy. Unlike traditional location-tracking apps:
- No GPS Tracking: The Showgaze app does not send your real-time GPS coordinates to our servers.
- Inverted Geofencing: The app periodically downloads a local list of active event coordinates. Location monitoring is handled entirely by your device's operating system.
- Local Execution: Your device monitors these regions locally using low-power signals. When you enter a designated event area, the OS triggers a local notification.
- Privacy Guarantee: Because the location boundary math happens entirely on your phone, your precise location data never leaves your device.
1.4 From Website & App Visitors
We automatically collect certain technical information when you use our Site or app, primarily through our infrastructure providers:
- Usage Data: IP addresses, browser or device type, and interaction patterns, collected via Cloudflare (our hosting provider) and Google Firebase.
- Cookies & Analytics: We use cookies and standard analytics tools (via Cloudflare) to improve site performance and understand usage patterns. Cookies do not identify you personally. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may be affected.
We do not process any sensitive information (such as health data) through the platform.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery: To synchronize audience footage, generate event analytics, and provide reports to event organizers.
- Proximity Notifications: To trigger local, on-device notifications when you are near an active event.
- Communication: To respond to inquiries and provide updates on our services.
- Optimization: To improve our synchronization algorithms and user interface.
- Security: To prevent unauthorized access and maintain the integrity of our platform.
We do not use your personal information for unrelated marketing or advertising. We do not engage in profiling or automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following circumstances:
- With Event Organizers: Media and metadata contributed during an event are provided to the authorized organizer of that specific event.
- Service Providers: We use third-party infrastructure to operate the platform, including Cloudflare (hosting and CDN) and Google Firebase (database and authentication). These providers may store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and Europe. We require them to protect your personal information in accordance with applicable privacy obligations.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights and the safety of our users.
4. Overseas Transfers
In operating the platform, your personal information may be transferred to and stored on servers located outside Australia — primarily in the United States and Europe, where our infrastructure providers (Cloudflare and Google Firebase) operate. Before any such transfer, we take all reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, in accordance with APP 8.
5. Data Retention & Security
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy or as required by our agreements with event organizers. Event footage is typically held for the duration of the post-production cycle; once that is complete, media is deleted or returned to the organizer unless a longer retention period has been agreed.
We employ industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure. While we work hard to maintain robust security, no internet-based system can be made entirely free of risk. If you believe your personal information has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information, subject to our legal obligations and any contractual obligations with event organizers.
To exercise any of these rights, please email our Privacy Officer at [email protected]. We will respond to your request within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with our handling of a privacy matter, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
